Covid lockdown created an opportunity to learn something new

My indie scent business originally began as a small art bead gallery and workshop called Mad Cat Glass in the market town of Leek, Staffordshire a few years ago.

My main job has been making flameworked glass beads for the jewellery / designer trade for many years. A couple of years ago, I took on premises in town and my business has grown and evolved.

During the Covid lockdown, I saw that a friend of mine was selling off a car boot full of wax and candle making supplies ... I was stuck at home anyway, so I jumped at the chance to try something totally new, mostly to stop me from going stir crazy !
It wasn't long before I found myself falling down the fragranced wax rabbit hole and wanting to try EVERYTHING !

Over the summer, I have been so busy at the shop that I haven't had any time for candle testing but I have just restarted the process.
In an effort to recoup some cash from the silly amount of money one can throw at this craft, I have also started making wax melts, using some lush fragrances and botanicals. They are far easier to get right than candles, as they don't need a wick, so  ........

Sniff[ology] is now a thing ! (insert smiley face)

After learning the basics and testing lots of waxes, fragrances, botanicals and wicks, I finally have some beautifully scented products to stock in my shop. Check out my blog for progress reports and little insights into the whole process

All of our products are  paraben and cruelty free. All scented candle waxes are blends of vegetable wax, predominantly soy wax.  Wax melts, sculptural and pillar candles are blended with some degree of mineral wax for stability as soy wax in itself is too soft.
